Conservation Areas (Unidades de Conservação - UCs) and Indigenous Lands (Terras Indígenas - TIs)

Source: Instituto Socioambiental (ISA), Protected Area Monitoring Programme
Scale: 1:100.000 (Brazilian Amazonia); 1:250.000 (federal CAs outside Brazilian Amazonia) and multiple scales (state CAs outside Brazilian Amazonia)
Data: updated daily
Daily examination of the Diário Oficial da União (official federal gazette) and the official gazettes of the states of the Legal Amazon region over many years (with the exception of that of the state of Amapá which only became available from December 2016) enables monitoring of the creation, revocation and alteration of the boundaries and categories of Conservation Areas and the evolution of recognition of Indigenous Lands. From the descriptive statement contained in decrees establishing Conservation Areas (UCs) and the recognition ordinances for Indigenous Lands - technical information that describes the limits of these protected areas by means of geographical coordinates and administrative boundaries - we plot their areas on a cartographic base of 1:100,000 for Amazonia and 1:250,000 for federal CAs of the rest of the country. The base maps used are: compilation of the hydrographic base of the DSG, IBGE and MMA at a scale of 1:100,000 for the Amazon region and the cartographic base compiled by the IBGE (2015) at the scale 1:250: 000 for the rest of Brazil. The daily reading of the official gazettes also allows monitoring of management actions, such as approval of management tools (management plans, public uses and other actions); creation, appointment and approval of the regulations of the management councils; actions relating to the regularization of land rights; compensation of Legal Reserves and the concession of use rights to public lands, among others. Given that the availability of official gazettes on the Internet occurred at different moments in time, in order to validate and complement such information, we periodically conduct direct consultations with the protected area management bodies (state government environment bodies and the federal protected areas authority ICMBio). In the case of state UCs outside Amazonia, the base is consolidated by searching the responsible bodies once a year.

Phytophysiognomies
Source: Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). Scale: 1:5,000,000 Due to the large number of contact types among phytophysionomies, all have been grouped into a single class called 'contacts' when viewed on web page maps.

Vegetation

The original delineations, compatible with the 1:1,000,000 scale, were recovered, compared and adjusted to allow continuous representation across the whole Brazilian territory.

Heat sources
Source: National Institute of Space Research (INPE)
A source indicates the existence of fire in an image resolution element (pixel), which can vary from 1 km2 to 5 km2. In this pixel there may be one or more distinct fires, although only one source will be shown. If the fire is extensive, it will be represented in neighbouring pixels, that is, several outbreaks are associated with a single large heat source. For the daily representation of heat sources, we used the reference satellite AQUA-M-T (MODIS sensor, overhead in the early afternoon).
For more details go to: http://www.inpe.br/queimadas/portal/informacoes/perguntas-frequentes
Date: updated daily, the previous day’s fires are always visible.

Mining applications

Classes of clusters: Due to the large numbers of titles, these have been grouped into four categories according to their stage in the process:
Phase Grouping Class:
1. Interest in research: prospecting application
2. Under investigation or available: research authorized; availability
3. Application to mine: mining application; prospecting request; licensing application; application for extraction registration
4. Authorization to mine: mining concession granted; prospecting authorized; licensing; extraction registered

Source: National Register of Speleological Information (Cadastro Nacional de Informações Espeleológicas - CANIE), a database of the National Centre for Cave Research and Conservation (Centro Nacional de Investigação e Conservação de Cavernas - CECAV) of the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (Instituto Chico Mendes de Conservação da Biodiversidade - ICMBio), an agency of the Ministry of the Environment (MMA). The National Register, an integral part of the National Environmental Information System (Sistema Nacional de Informação do Meio Ambiente - SINIMA), is constituted by information related to national speleological heritage. It was established by CONAMA Resolution No. 347/2004 and developed by ICMBio, based on the conceptual and methodological model of the CAVE Base of the Brazilian Geological Survey (CPRM). CECAV is responsible for technical support and management. The National Register is intended to gather known speleological data, currently dispersed among different sources, and to become the reference tool in the search for updated geospatial information. The initial data, which gave origin to the CANIE, came from the Geo-Spatial Data Base of the Caves of Brazil (Base CECAV), formed from the integration of field surveys carried out by the CECAV technical team; studies and research submitted to the CECAV; specialized bibliography; the National Register of Caves of Brazil (CNC), of the Brazilian Society of Speleology (SBE); and the CODEX of Redespeleo Brasil, whose activities ended in October 2013. The CECAV Base, last available in December 2015, was migrated to CANIE. Users should note that the data in the CANIE are liable to change; thus, entries of new data, corrections and deletions of records may occur, in accordance with the level of validation presented. These data are periodically updated to facilitate use of this information by the external user.
